Priyanka Gandhi Presents ‘People’s Chargesheet’ Against BJP Government in Assam

Congress accuses the BJP of corruption, syndicate raj, job crisis and betrayal of indigenous rights; says document reflects voices from all 35 districts of Assam

Guwahati: Launching a sharp attack ahead of the elections, senior Indian National Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday released a People’s Chargesheet targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Assam government, alleging large-scale corruption, administrative failure and rising distress among youth and indigenous communities.

Calling it a “people’s document,” the party claimed the chargesheet captures the anger and frustration of citizens who feel excluded from development. The party allegedly accused the Chief Minister and his close aides of running an administration marked by “syndicate raj, favouritism and neglect of ordinary citizens.”

The Congress outlined key allegations against the government, including massive corruption, an entrenched syndicate raj, denial of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six indigenous communities, transfer of local land to corporate allies of the BJP, and rising unemployment among youth.

MP Pradyut Bordoloi states that a Manifesto Committee was formed, and he was entrusted with the responsibility of leading it and worked on this for three months. During this time, the committee was divided into five groups. Each group was headed by senior and prominent members of the APCC leaders representing different sections of society. “We began a wide consultation process with the people, both vertically and horizontally,” he states.

Congress leaders maintained that the chargesheet is not merely a political critique but a collective expression of public sentiment drawn directly from the ground. Framing it as a platform for accountability, they said the document seeks to place the government’s record before the “court of the people” ahead of the elections.

With governance, employment and protection of indigenous rights emerging as central themes, the party asserted that the upcoming electoral battle would be fought on issues of transparency and inclusive development. The message, they underlined, is clear: Assam’s future must be built on trust, opportunity and justice, not corruption or division.
