PWD Minister reviews damage on ground, directs urgent repairs and temporary connectivity measures after Singla River bridge failure injures four

Sribhumi: Assam Minister Krishnendu Paul on Thursday visited the Anipur bridge collapse site in Sribhumi district to assess the damage and fast-track restoration work after the sudden failure of a key Bailey bridge disrupted local connectivity.
The Bailey bridge over the Singla River at Anipur Bazaar gave way on Wednesday when two heavily loaded sand dumpers attempted to cross simultaneously, causing the central span to collapse. Four pedestrians sustained injuries, several vehicles were damaged, and movement between nearby areas came to a halt, leaving commuters stranded.
Reviewing the situation on the ground, the Minister ordered the immediate dismantling of the damaged structure and directed officials to begin repair work without delay. He held a telephonic discussion with the PWD Commissioner and senior engineers, stressing that public safety and quick restoration of traffic must be treated as top priorities.

The minister also instructed authorities to put in place temporary arrangements to ensure safe movement of residents until the bridge is rebuilt. He called for strict monitoring and adherence to safety norms during the reconstruction process.
Local residents expressed concern over the disruption, especially as the collapse affected daily travel and access to schools and nearby towns, highlighting the urgent need for durable infrastructure in the region.
