Lohit bridge inaugurated, Rs 694 crore road upgrades and Majuli Jorhat link set to improve travel, trade and regional growth

Majuli: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on February 12 strengthened Majuli’s road connectivity by inaugurating key bridge and highway projects aimed at transforming transportation links to and from the river island district.
The Chief Minister ceremonially inaugurated the 702.30 metre bridge over the River Lohit at Selekghat, built under the Asom Mala 1.0 scheme. The bridge is expected to significantly improve travel for residents by enhancing Majuli–Lakhimpur connectivity and easing the movement of people and goods.

The project forms part of a larger Rs 694.77 crore initiative, which includes the upgradation of the Balichapori–Bongalmora road and the construction of two major bridges over the Lohit and Subansiri rivers, aimed at strengthening the region’s overall infrastructure network.

Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated the construction of the Majuli–Jorhat Bridge along with the connecting highway. Once completed, the project is expected to drastically reduce travel time and provide seamless access to the river island, opening new avenues for trade, tourism and economic growth.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said the government has several more development-focused plans in store for Majuli and reaffirmed its commitment to the district’s holistic progress.
