Academic block, girls’ hostel and integrated administrative hub set to enhance education access and public services
Majuli: Marking a significant step forward for higher education and administrative infrastructure in Majuli, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated key development projects aimed at strengthening the district’s academic and governance framework.
At the Majuli University of Culture, the Chief Minister ceremonially opened a new Academic Building and Girls’ Hostel, constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 51 crore. The three-storey academic block, designed to accommodate 1,880 students, features modern classrooms, administrative spaces and technology-enabled facilities. The adjoining four-storey hostel provides safe and well-equipped accommodation for 178 girl students.
Expressing optimism about the university’s future, the Chief Minister said plans are underway to introduce Arts and Science courses, helping the institution grow into a premier centre of learning while enriching Assam’s academic and cultural landscape.
In a separate event, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the Integrated District Commissioner’s Office at Garamur, giving a major boost to administrative efficiency in the river island district. Built under SOPD at a cost of Rs 24.83 crore, the three-storey complex spans 4,263.51 sq. metres and brings the DC’s office and key departments under one roof.
The facility includes modern amenities such as meeting halls, a video conferencing room, a digital library, an auditorium, a childcare room and dedicated public service spaces to ensure smoother and faster delivery of government services. The Chief Minister also planted a bakul sapling on the premises, symbolising growth and sustainability.
