Majuli: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday extended financial support to thousands of women in Majuli under the Mukhyamantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA), reinforcing the state government’s push for women-led entrepreneurship.

During his visit to the river island district, the Chief Minister ceremonially distributed Rs 10,000 each as seed capital to the 31,952 women beneficiaries. The assistance aims to help women start small businesses, generate income, and become financially independent.

Describing the initiative as a step towards true empowerment, the Chief Minister said the scheme is opening new opportunities for ‘Nari Shakti’ and strengthening self-reliance at the grassroots level. He noted that the smiling faces of the beneficiaries reflect the growing confidence among women entrepreneurs across Assam.

With this latest distribution, the MMUA scheme has now supported 28,17,857 women statewide, as the government works toward its vision of transforming every eligible woman into a ‘Lakhpati Baideu.’

Emphasising the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister reiterated that empowering women remains central to Assam’s development, stating that a stronger woman means a more developed Assam.
