MMUA seed capital distributed, five major road projects launched and the Bamboo Industrial Park inaugurated to drive livelihoods and connectivity

Dima Hasao: The district witnessed a significant push towards women’s empowerment, infrastructure growth and sustainable livelihoods as Assam Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika rolled out multiple development initiatives across the district, reinforcing the state government’s focus on inclusive progress.
At a ceremonial programme held at the Maibang Degree College playground, seed capital of Rs.10,000 each was distributed to 18,968 women under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA). The initiative aims to nurture grassroots entrepreneurship and enable women to start small enterprises, strengthen family incomes and contribute to the local economy.

The cheque distribution took place in the presence of Dima Hasao Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa, Chairman Mohit Hojai, Executive Members of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), the District Commissioner and senior officials.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Hazarika said the scheme reflects the vision of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to build a self-reliant and women-led economy by providing direct financial support to aspiring ‘Nari-preneurs.’

Further strengthening development in the hill district, foundation stones were laid for five major road upgradation projects under the Assam Disaster Resilient Hills Road Development Programme, funded by the World Bank. The projects include the Amrudisa–Umrangso, Semkhor–Maibang, Thaisalinghawar–Amrudisa, Maibang–Gunjung and Girijanapur–Semkhor stretches.
Covering a total length of 120 kilometres and estimated at Rs.997 crore, the road packages aim to enhance connectivity, ensure safer travel and make infrastructure more resilient to natural disasters. The improved road network is expected to boost trade, ease transportation challenges and bring remote areas closer to essential services and markets.

In another key initiative, Minister Hazarika inaugurated the Bamboo Industrial Park at Manderdisa. Designed to harness the district’s abundant bamboo resources, the park will promote bamboo-based manufacturing, value addition and skill development. The project is expected to generate local employment, support small producers and create sustainable income opportunities for youth and artisans.
Minister Nandita Gorlosa, MLA Jitu Goswami, Chairman Mohit Hojai and other council representatives graced the programme with their presence.

These initiatives mark a comprehensive development drive for Dima Hasao, combining women’s entrepreneurship, resilient infrastructure and industry-led growth to build a stronger and self-reliant hill district.
