Assam CM Distributes MMUA Seed Fund in Demow: Accelerates Women-Led Growth

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the MMUA cheque distribution in Demow, extending Rs. 10,000 seed capital to over 31,000 women entrepreneurs and reinforcing Assam’s push to turn grassroots enterprise into a statewide movement

Demow: Women-led economic empowerment took centre stage in Demow as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the latest phase of the Mukhyamantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA), distributing entrepreneurship seed capital to thousands of beneficiaries.

At the event, cheques of Rs. 10,000 each were handed over to 31,291 women from the Demow Legislative Assembly Constituency, aimed at supporting small enterprises and self-employment initiatives. With this rollout, the Assam government has now reached 23.2 lakh women across 95 Assembly constituencies, positioning MMUA as one of the state’s largest women-centric economic programmes.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to transforming entrepreneurship into a mass movement driven by women at the grassroots. He noted that access to initial capital can play a critical role in enabling women to start, sustain and scale small businesses, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.

In addition to the cheque distribution, the Chief Minister virtually laid the foundation stones for several key development projects in Demow. These included the Demow Sub-Divisional Office, major road upgradation works under Assam Mala 3.0, improved connectivity to Sivasagar Medical College, and strengthening of critical embankments to enhance resilience and infrastructure safety.

Addressing the media after the event, the Chief Minister confirmed that over 31,000 women beneficiaries in Demow had received MMUA assistance in a single day. He added that the state government is on track to complete the distribution of MMUA funds across all remaining Assembly constituencies by February 6.

The Demow programme underscored the dual focus of the Assam government on women-led economic growth and parallel investments in infrastructure to support long-term, inclusive development across the state.
