Zubeen Garg Case: Guwahati Court Grants Legal Heir Certificate to Garima Saikia Garg

Kamrup (Metro) District Judge’s Court recognises Garima Saikia Garg as the legal successor to Zubeen Garg’s financial assets worth about Rs 9.63 lakh, while LLP-related matters remain separate

Guwahati: The Kamrup (Metropolitan) District Judge’s Court has granted a Succession Certificate to Garima Saikia Garg, wife of late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, legally recognising her as the successor to his debts and securities covered under the Indian Succession Act.

The order followed a petition filed by advocate Pradipta Talukdar seeking legal recognition of Garima Saikia Garg as the successor to the singer’s financial estate. The court passed the order after examining documentary evidence and no-objection affidavits submitted by Zubeen Garg’s father, Mohini Mohan Borthakur, and sister, Palmee Borthakur. The court also noted that the singer had not left behind a will concerning these financial assets.

Under the order, Garima Saikia Garg is now legally entitled to access and operate Zubeen Garg’s bank accounts and financial investments covered by the certificate, amounting to approximately Rs 9.63 lakh. These include two Standard Chartered Bank accounts in Mumbai with a combined balance of about Rs 4.51 lakh, an ICICI Bank account in Guwahati containing around Rs 1.67 lakh, and mutual fund investments worth nearly Rs 3.45 lakh.

The court clarified that matters relating to Zubeen Garg Music LLP and the Green Rhinos joint venture will be governed separately by their partnership agreements and applicable laws.

Speaking after the order, advocate Pradipta Talukdar said the certificate legally enables Garima Saikia Garg to access the financial assets covered by the court. Garima, who became emotional after receiving the certificate, said, “It has been a mental battle with myself. I never imagined that I would have to go through a phase like this.”
