Coordinated effort by CISF, airport officials and Hyderabad airport authorities helped trace the owner after the unattended bag was detected during security screening
Guwahati: Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati has returned an unattended bag containing foreign currency worth more than Rs 10.14 lakh to its rightful owner following a coordinated operation involving the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the airport’s Lost and Found team and Hyderabad airport authorities.
According to airport officials, the bag was detected during routine security screening at Terminal 1 on June 26 after CISF personnel found it unattended at the Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS).
Following standard security protocols, the bag was secured and handed over to the airport’s Lost and Found team. Officials found US$10,720, 175 Chinese yuan, medicines and other personal belongings inside.
The passenger was identified using the name written on the bag and medicine strips. After reviewing CCTV footage, officials confirmed that the passenger had already boarded a flight to Hyderabad.
In coordination with the CISF and Hyderabad airport authorities, the passenger was traced, ownership of the bag was verified and the belongings were handed over to an authorised representative.
Airport authorities said the incident demonstrated the effectiveness of established security procedures and inter-agency coordination in ensuring the safe recovery of passengers’ belongings.
Operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, LGBIA said the successful recovery reflects its commitment to passenger service and security while maintaining efficient lost-and-found mechanisms.
