The Election Department has flagged more than 21,900 pending voter records as the Special Intensive Revision enters its final phase, with verification efforts intensifying across the state

Gangtok: More than 21,928 electors in Sikkim are at risk of being removed from the state’s voter list as the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls enters its final stage, Chief Electoral Officer Raj Yadav said on Monday.
Addressing a press conference, Yadav said 99.68 per cent of Enumeration Forms (EFs) have been distributed across the state. However, only 84.14 per cent have been digitised and verified by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), leaving 21,928 electors yet to be accounted for ahead of the June 28 deadline.
According to the Election Department, most of the pending cases involve electors reported as deceased, permanently shifted, untraceable, frequently absent from their registered addresses, or already enrolled in voter lists elsewhere. Officials warned that the number of proposed deletions could increase further as verification continues.
Several urban constituencies, including Arithang, Gangtok, Khamdong-Singtam, Namchi-Singhithang and West Pendam, have recorded comparatively low rates of verification and digitisation, making them areas of particular concern.
Describing the situation as a “high-alert” matter, Yadav said election officials have intensified efforts through door-to-door visits, telephone outreach and coordination with Panchayati Raj institutions and Urban Local Bodies to trace pending electors.
“Every eligible elector should ensure that their Enumeration Form is submitted and verified within the stipulated timeline. Failure to do so may result in their name not being included in the Draft Electoral Roll,” Yadav said.
The Election Department has urged voters to submit their Enumeration Forms by June 25 to allow sufficient time for verification. The Draft Electoral Roll is scheduled to be published on July 5 and will contain details of retained voters and those proposed for deletion.
