Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says the state is coordinating with families and agencies to facilitate the safe return of stranded residents
Guwahati: Assam has opened an emergency help desk at Assam House in New Delhi to assist residents stranded in flood-hit Nepal, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.
The Chief Minister further asserted that the state government is in touch with families of those unable to leave Nepal and is coordinating with concerned agencies to ensure their safety and facilitate their return to Assam.
The Chief Minister did not disclose the number of Assam residents currently stranded or missing in Nepal. Chief Secretary Ravi Kota said no family had approached the state government so far seeking information about relatives who may be affected.

Meanwhile, Nepal’s flood death toll rose to 469 on Friday as rescue teams recovered more bodies from the affected areas. Authorities said 1,545 people, including injured and stranded residents, have been evacuated, while 84 people are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Kathmandu.
Search and rescue operations entered their third day, involving 7,451 security personnel, including 2,391 Nepal Army personnel.
