State government waives registration fees for electric vehicles, clears power infrastructure projects and approves creation of the New Shillong Development Authority
Shillong: The Meghalaya Government approved the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, 2026, introducing incentives to boost electric vehicle adoption across the state.
Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting, Cabinet Minister Marcuise N. Marak said every individual purchasing an electric vehicle will receive an incentive of Rs 25,000. The government has also waived registration fees for all EVs to promote cleaner and more sustainable transport.
The Cabinet also approved the extension of B.M. War, former Chief Engineer (Civil) of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), as Chief Technical Advisor (Generation).
In another decision, the government sanctioned Rs 22.37 crore as land compensation for a 6.5-km 132 KV transmission line connecting the existing Secondary Sub-Station with the proposed Mawkhanu Sub-Station, a project aimed at strengthening the state’s power infrastructure.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved amendments to the New Township Development Agency Rules, 2012, enabling the creation of the New Shillong Development Authority (NSDA), which will oversee urban planning, infrastructure development and governance to support the city’s long-term expansion.
