Manipur Police Crack Down on Inflammatory Social Media Post: One Arrested

23-year-old from Imphal East held for allegedly sharing provocative content; authorities warn of strict action against attempts to incite violence

Imphal: Acting on concerns over public order, Manipur Police has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly circulating inflammatory content on social media. The action follows the identification of a Facebook account, “Meetei Nongsa Lamyanba,” which reportedly shared posts containing threats and calls for violence.

According to police, the accused, identified as Tensubam Lamyanba Meitei from Imphal East, was taken into custody after authorities found the content capable of disturbing communal harmony. Officials stated that such posts had the potential to escalate tensions and disrupt public peace.

In a statement, the police emphasised that they are treating the matter with seriousness. “Strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to incite violence or disturb communal harmony,” they said, underlining a zero-tolerance approach toward provocative online behaviour.

Meanwhile, investigators are continuing to examine the case, including the nature of the posts and any possible links or affiliations. The accused is reportedly associated with a group referred to as AT, though further details are yet to be clarified.

Importantly, the development comes amid heightened sensitivity around social media content in conflict-prone regions. Authorities have urged citizens to act responsibly online and refrain from sharing unverified or inflammatory material.
