Manipur Curfew Crackdown: 166 Detained as Security Forces Intensify Statewide Operations

Over 100 checkpoints set up, coordinated search operations launched in sensitive areas of Bishnupur

Imphal: Security enforcement has been stepped up across Manipur, with 166 individuals detained for alleged violations of curfew norms and provisions under Section 35 of the BNSS, police said on Saturday.

As part of a wider crackdown, authorities have established 110 naka or checkpoint points across both hill and valley districts to monitor movement and maintain order in sensitive zones. The measures come amid continued efforts to stabilise the security situation.

In a statement shared on X, Manipur Police said, “Security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas across districts,” adding that the detentions were linked to curfew breaches and legal violations.

Earlier, a major coordinated operation was also carried out in the Bishnupur district on April 12. The exercise, conducted jointly by state police, Central Armed Police Forces, and Army units, ran from 7 am to 10 am and covered multiple locations, including Tronglaobi Makha Leikai, Gurukhana, Moirangpokpa, Gelmol, Uyungmakhong, and the Upper Canal area.

Officials said such operations are part of an ongoing strategy to assert control in vulnerable pockets and prevent any escalation of unrest. Security forces are continuing area domination exercises and surveillance to ensure compliance with restrictions and to deter potential disturbances.

Authorities maintain that the intensified deployment and enforcement are necessary to safeguard public safety and restore normalcy across the state.
