Karimganj North Re-Poll Records 61.67% Turnout After April 9 Voting Cancelled

Fresh polling ordered by ECI over irregularities concludes smoothly under tight security in Sribhumi district

Karimganj: Fresh polling at the 239 No. Babylane High English School booth in the North Karimganj Assembly constituency concluded on Saturday with a voter turnout of 61.67% recorded till 5 pm, officials confirmed.

The re-poll was conducted following directions from the Election Commission of India, which had annulled the April 9 polling at the station after reports of irregularities and disruptions raised concerns about the integrity of the process.

Voting commenced at 7 am and continued steadily through the day, with voters arriving in consistent numbers to exercise their franchise. Authorities ensured heightened security deployment at the booth to prevent any recurrence of earlier disturbances.

Officials described the polling as peaceful and well-managed, with no untoward incidents reported. The administration maintained strict vigilance throughout the process.

Senior officials, including District Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi, along with police personnel, remained on-site to oversee arrangements, security, and overall conduct of voting.

The decision to hold a re-poll followed a detailed review of the earlier situation, where alleged rigging and commotion had disrupted the initial voting process.

Residents welcomed the fresh exercise, expressing confidence that the re-poll would ensure a free, fair, and transparent outcome, accurately reflecting the will of the electorate.
