Unseen footage and intimate moments to be showcased at NMACC, followed by a panel with key filmmakers

Mumbai: Marking six years since the passing of acclaimed actor Irrfan Khan, a special documentary revisiting his journey during Paan Singh Tomar is set to premiere on April 29 at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC).
Titled A Story That Refused to Die, the film, directed by Ranjeeta Kaur, draws from rare and previously lost footage to present a deeper look into Irrfan’s craft. Instead of focusing solely on the final performance, the documentary captures the actor’s process, silences, and creative intensity that defined one of his most celebrated roles.
Importantly, the screening will be followed by a discussion featuring director Tigmanshu Dhulia and filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, moderated by Saurabh Dwivedi. Reflecting on the journey, Dhulia said, “Making Paan Singh Tomar wouldn’t have been possible without Irrfan… his contribution to cinema remains eternal.”
Meanwhile, Kaur described the project as a personal tribute. “This documentary is my salute to Irrfan Khan and the resilience that cinema represents,” she noted.
Notably, the restored footage will be screened publicly for the first time in over a decade, adding historical value to the event. Irrfan, who passed away in 2020 after battling a neuroendocrine tumour, continues to inspire audiences through his enduring legacy.
