Fresh NH-27 Crash Near Khetri Leaves Motorcyclist Seriously Injured Days After Fatal Accident

The latest collision has renewed concerns over road safety near Khetri, where residents have repeatedly raised complaints about the condition of the highway

Khetri: Another accident on National Highway-27 near Khetri in Sonapur has renewed concerns over the safety of the accident-prone stretch, with a motorcyclist sustaining serious injuries after his two-wheeler was hit by a passenger car on Friday, September 4.

The accident occurred at Khaloibari village under Dimoria constituency in Assam’s Kamrup Metropolitan district. According to reports, a passenger car bearing registration number AS 12 H 1074 collided with a motorcycle bearing registration number AS01D0360.

The motorcycle rider, identified as Indramohan Goswami, sustained serious injuries in the collision. Khetri traffic police reached the spot after receiving information and shifted him to a medical facility in critical condition.

The latest crash comes just days after a major accident on the same NH-27 stretch on August 30, in which at least seven people were killed. The earlier crash was reportedly triggered by a large pothole, after a commercial passenger vehicle lost control, crossed the divider and collided with an oncoming truck.

The August 30 tragedy sparked protests, with residents alleging negligence in highway maintenance and demanding urgent repairs. An emergency meeting was subsequently held on August 31, where authorities assured that the damaged stretch would be repaired within seven days.

Despite the assurance, residents have reported further accidents in the area. Locals have claimed that three to four accidents occur daily, raising fresh questions over the pace of remedial work and safety measures.

The repeated crashes have renewed demands for immediate repairs, regular monitoring and stronger safety measures along the NH-27 stretch near Khetri.
