The complaint was filed amid an ongoing probe into the death of Bir Lachit Sena leader Manas Jyoti Chetia
Sivasagar: The Bagh Hazarika Aikya Mancha has filed an FIR against Muzammil Islam, whose name was reportedly included in an earlier complaint linked to the mysterious death of Bir Lachit Sena leader Manasjyoti Chetia.
The organisation’s district secretary, Abu Rahman, submitted the complaint at Sivasagar Sadar Police Station on the night of August 27.
According to the complaint, the organisation has accused Islam of allegedly spreading misinformation against the group and issuing death threats to its members. The allegations have not been independently verified.
The FIR was filed less than 48 hours after the Bir Lachit Sena lodged a complaint at the same police station over Chetia’s death, in which Islam was reportedly named among the accused. The Bagh Hazarika Aikya Mancha has urged police to investigate the allegations and take appropriate legal action.
The development comes as Assam Police continues its probe into Chetia’s death. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Sivasagar DSP Lila Bora has been constituted to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and allegations raised in the case.
