“Every Sixth BJP MP Won Through Vote Theft”: Rahul Gandhi Escalates Attack Over Poll Results

Rahul Gandhi alleges electoral manipulation in Assam and Bengal, questioning the fairness of the democratic process

Guwahati: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi intensified his criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that electoral outcomes in Assam and West Bengal were influenced by what he described as “vote theft” and institutional bias. He claimed that “roughly every sixth BJP MP” in the Lok Sabha had secured victory through manipulated processes, adding that such candidates could be identified without difficulty.

Expanding his argument, Gandhi asserted that electoral malpractice was not limited to individual constituencies but, in some cases, extended to entire governments. He cited states such as Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Maharashtra as examples where similar patterns had allegedly emerged in the past. “If elections were conducted fairly today, the BJP would struggle to cross even 140 seats,” he said.

At the same time, Gandhi defended the All India Trinamool Congress following its defeat in West Bengal, urging political leaders to avoid “petty celebrations” over the loss. He argued that the issue went beyond party lines and instead raised broader concerns about democratic integrity in India.

Furthermore, he accused institutions responsible for overseeing elections of being “controlled” and claimed that voter lists and processes were being influenced. According to Gandhi, these developments reflect a deeper challenge to democratic norms, stating that the “real fear” for those in power remains transparency and accountability.
