Assamese cinema earns national spotlight as Sarma’s performance receives top honour in Mumbai

Mumbai: Assamese cinema marked a significant milestone as Ravi Sarma won the Best Actor award at the INCA Awards 2026 for his performance in the film Rudra. The ceremony, held in Mumbai, brought together leading talents from across the Indian film industry.
Sarma’s portrayal in Rudra drew widespread acclaim for its intensity and depth. In the film, directed by Roopak Gogoi, he plays a highly trained commando pulled back into action after betrayal, ultimately becoming a crucial force against emerging national threats. His performance was widely seen as a defining element of the film’s impact.
Importantly, the recognition goes beyond individual achievement. It highlights the growing presence of Assamese cinema on a national platform, reflecting its evolving storytelling and talent pool.
The INCA Awards, held on April 15 and 16, celebrated excellence across regional and mainstream Indian cinema. Alongside Sarma, Naga Chaitanya also received the Best Actor honour, while Nandinee Kashyap and Rashmika Mandanna won Best Actress for their performances.
As a result, Sarma’s win stands as both a personal triumph and a proud moment for Assam’s film industry, reinforcing its growing influence in the national cinematic landscape.
