Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said schools still affected by floodwaters or mud will continue classes through nearby relief camps until restoration is complete
Guwahati: Schools across Assam’s flood-affected districts are expected to reopen from August 10, with alternate arrangements being made for students whose institutions remain unfit for classes, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said on Wednesday.
Pegu said the government’s priority is to ensure that students’ education is not disrupted despite the extensive damage caused by the recent floods.
Schools that remain submerged or filled with mud will not reopen immediately. Instead, students from these institutions will attend classes at nearby relief camps until restoration work is completed.
The Minister further added that schools ready to resume operations will also accommodate students from neighbouring flood-affected institutions to minimise academic disruption.
According to the minister, several schools in Sivasagar and Charaideo are unlikely to be ready by August 10, as cleaning and restoration work is still underway. The Education Department is restoring the remaining institutions in phases to ensure regular classroom teaching resumes as soon as conditions permit.
