Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Assam is among the first states in the country to approve the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for government employees.
The Chief Minister said the state government is working with the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), Central Recordkeeping Agencies and other stakeholders to ensure the scheme is implemented smoothly and transparently.
“Assam was among the first States to approve the Unified Pension Scheme for its Government employees,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X, assuring employees of the government’s commitment to implementing the scheme.
Under UPS, employees completing at least 25 years of service are eligible for an assured pension equivalent to 50 per cent of their average basic pay during the final 12 months before retirement. For shorter service, the pension is proportionate, subject to a minimum qualifying service of 10 years.
The scheme also provides an assured family pension of 60 per cent of the employee’s pension and a minimum pension of Rs 10,000 per month for eligible retirees. Inflation indexation, Dearness Relief and retirement benefits, including gratuity and a lump-sum payment, are also part of the scheme.
