AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal predicts a 4–5 lakh victory in the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll and takes aim at BJP and Congress ahead of October 9 counting

Nagaon: AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal has claimed he will win the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll by a margin of 4–5 lakh votes, two days after polling ended in the constituency.
Speaking in Nagaon on October 8, Ajmal expressed confidence that the result would favour AIUDF, saying he expected his party to celebrate while the BJP and Congress would be disappointed. He also extended his wishes to both parties, saying their turn to win would come someday.
Taking a dig at his rivals, Ajmal sought to portray the three-way contest as effectively a fight between AIUDF and two candidates on the same side. He alleged that Congress candidate Sibamoni Bora and BJP nominee Devashish Sharma were essentially aligned.
Ajmal further claimed that he could see only AIUDF’s prospects among the choices before voters and reiterated his prediction of a 4–5 lakh victory. He also claimed, without providing evidence, that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had “given up” on the Nagaon seat.
The bypoll, held on October 6, featured BJP’s Devashish Sharma, Congress’ Sibamoni Bora and Ajmal in the main three-way contest. Counting is scheduled for October 9, when Ajmal’s prediction will be tested against the final vote tally.
