Guwahati Airport Approved as Export Hub for Assam’s Agarwood Chips and Oil

The decision is expected to ease export logistics for agarwood chips and oil, benefiting farmers, producers and exporters across Assam and the Northeast

Guwahati: The Centre has approved Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati as an export point for agarwood chips and agarwood oil, in a move expected to boost Assam’s agarwood industry.

The approval was granted by the Modi government following a request from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, according to an announcement shared on social media.

The decision is expected to provide significant relief to farmers, producers and exporters by improving export logistics and bringing international markets closer to the region.

Assam is a leading producer of agarwood, a valuable forest-based product widely used in the perfume, incense and essential oil industries. The new export facility could help strengthen market access for local producers and create opportunities for the region’s agarwood trade.

The announcement described the decision as a major logistical boost for Assam and the wider Northeast, congratulating farmers, producers and exporters who stand to benefit from the development.
