Shillong: Four leaders of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) have been released on bail in connection with the violence during the union’s black flag bike rally on August 19, former KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah said on Thursday.

The latest releases include Banjoplang Dkhar, president of KSU’s Shillong Mihngi Circle, and Samuel Kharbani, its general secretary, who were released from Shillong District Jail. Earlier, KSU president Raymond Kharjana and general secretary Reuben Najiar had also secured bail and been released.

Confirming the latest development, Thabah said two more individuals remained under bail arrangements. They are Pynkmenlang Sanmiet, the union’s vice-president, who is on interim bail, and Jeremiah Pohtmi, president of the Nongmensong unit and an assistant general secretary of the KSU Central Executive Committee.

The August 19 rally was organised by the students’ union as a black flag bike rally. Violence during the event led to the arrest of several KSU leaders. With Thursday’s releases, four leaders have secured release from custody in the case, according to Thabah.
