India wins 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, falling short of its record 106-medal haul in 2023

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met India’s Asian Games medallists on Thursday, October 15, following the country’s campaign at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Games in Japan, where India finished fourth with 85 medals.
India’s tally comprised 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, 21 fewer than its record 106-medal haul at the 2023 Hangzhou Games. Despite the decline, Indian athletes delivered notable performances across individual and team events.
Archery emerged as a major contributor, securing nine medals, including five gold. Wrestling and boxing added six medals each, with boxers winning three gold and wrestlers claiming two.
India also won gold in both men’s and women’s hockey, cricket and kabaddi. The men’s hockey team defeated Malaysia 5-1, while the women beat China 1-0. Both cricket teams and both kabaddi teams also secured titles.
Athletics led India’s medal count by volume with 24 medals, followed by shooting with 15. Together, the two disciplines contributed 39 medals, although India’s shooting tally fell from 22 medals in Hangzhou.
Mirabai Chanu’s silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting category marked India’s first Asian Games medal in the sport in 28 years.
