Guwahati: A video purportedly showing a woman advocate being assaulted inside the Azara Revenue Circle Office in Guwahati has triggered allegations of misconduct, with Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi demanding strict action against those he has named.
Gogoi raised the issue on social media on October 10, urging Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to act against Azara Revenue Circle Officer Biplab Sharma Bordoloi, ALRS Bipul Deka and advocate Bastab Barman.
According to Gogoi’s account, the woman advocate had visited the office for a hearing related to a case. An ALRS official allegedly verbally abused her, used obscene language and asked her to leave his room.
The situation reportedly escalated when she approached the Revenue Circle Officer to complain. When she began recording the proceedings on her mobile phone, an official allegedly grabbed her hand and attempted to take away the device.
Gogoi condemned the alleged incident and questioned women’s safety inside government establishments. Referring to Jalukbari, the Chief Minister’s constituency, he questioned whether action would be taken against those accused.
He also urged Assam Police, the Director General of Police and the Guwahati Police Commissionerate to intervene, alleging that the incident occurred after the office doors had been closed.
