AIUDF chief makes a series of remarks targeting Himanta Biswa Sarma, Piyush Hazarika and BJP candidate Devashish Sharma during Lahorighat campaign

Guwahati: AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal intensified the rhetoric around the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll, making a series of sharp remarks targeting Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, minister Piyush Hazarika and BJP candidate Devashish Sharma during a campaign meeting at Borbori in Lahorighat.

Targeting the CM, Ajmal said, “Will gouge out Himanta’s eyes so that he cannot see the Miya people.” He also claimed that the CM and Hazarika would “have to go to Bangladesh”. The remarks were made while addressing supporters during the AIUDF campaign.

Ajmal also targeted BJP candidate Devashish Sharma, saying he would “put Devashish Sharma in jail within four months”. He further said Sharma would be forgiven if he “recites the Kalima”. Taking a combative tone during the meeting, Ajmal also said, “This doctor, that doctor, Ajmal is the factor.”

He additionally claimed that he had spent Rs 50 lakh to educate and bring Iliyas Ansari into politics and said Ansari would be given an AIUDF ticket in the upcoming election. These claims were made by Ajmal during the campaign meeting.

Ajmal’s remarks come amid an increasingly active Nagaon bypoll campaign, with the BJP, Congress and AIUDF stepping up rallies and public meetings ahead of polling. The Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll is scheduled for October 6.
