Education Minister Ranoj Pegu says revised exam schedules may follow extended teaching periods aimed at helping students complete their syllabus
Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has indicated that the upcoming HSLC (Matric) and Higher Secondary final examinations are likely to be held later than their usual schedule following disruptions caused by the recent floods in the state.
Pegu made the announcement during a visit to Deomarnai in Darrang district, where he inaugurated a newly constructed academic building at Deomarnai Higher Secondary School.
The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), Division-I, has already extended the regular teaching period for Class X students until February 22, 2027, while Class XII classes will continue until March 8, 2027.
The revised academic calendar takes into account disruptions caused by the floods as well as ongoing Census-related activities.
With teaching periods extended, the board examinations are also expected to be pushed back. ASSEB is expected to announce the final examination dates separately after considering the revised academic schedule.
The move is intended to ensure students receive adequate classroom instruction and sufficient time to complete their syllabi before appearing for the board examinations.
During his Darrang visit, Pegu also inspected four other educational institutions and interacted with students and teachers regarding infrastructure and the academic environment.
