Gaurav Gogoi, Bhupesh Baghel, Rakibul Hussain and other senior leaders included in party’s campaign team for October 6 poll
Guwahati: The Congress has named 40 leaders as star campaigners for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, scheduled for October 6. The list was submitted to the Election Commission by Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal on September 16 under Section 77(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
Among the prominent names are Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Congress MP Wazed Ali Choudhury, former Assam minister Rakibul Hussain, and party spokespersons Pawan Khera and Supriya Shrinate.
The list also includes Debabrata Saikia, leader of the Assam Congress Legislative Party, former Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora, former minister Paban Singh Ghatowar, Kanhaiya Kumar, Alka Lamba, Imran Pratapgarhi and Srinivas B.V.
Several other Assam-based leaders, including Nandita Das, Abdul Khaleque, Aminul Islam and Mira Barthakur Goswami, have also been named.
The by-election follows the resignation of former Nagaon MP Pradyut Bordoloi. Polling is scheduled for October 6, with counting set for October 9.
