Assam CM joins statewide blood donation drive organised by BJP workers to commemorate the singer and cultural icon
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday donated blood at the BJP headquarters in Basistha, Guwahati, as part of a statewide blood donation drive organised to commemorate the first death anniversary of singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg. He arrived at the party office in the afternoon and participated in the initiative along with Minister Keshab Mahanta and several BJP workers.
Blood donation camps were organised at multiple locations across Assam as part of the party’s programme to honour Garg’s memory through an act of service.
The Chief Minister had earlier announced the initiative, saying he would also donate blood at the BJP office on September 19. The camps were organised across the state as Assam observed the first death anniversary of the singer, who died in September 2025.
The Chief Minister also paid an emotional tribute to the late singer on social media, “It feels surreal that a year has passed without Zubeen…”
Meanwhile, the three-day Zubeen Divas observance is underway at Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur, where Garg’s final resting place has been decorated with flowers and fresh gamosas.
Prayer ceremonies, naam-prasanga, cultural programmes, Bhagawat recitation and Bhaona have been lined up as thousands of admirers gather to remember the artiste fondly known as “Pranor Silpi.”
