Police say a relationship-related dispute may have led to the killing of 31-year-old Anil Rajgarh in Mariani
Jorhat: A second alleged decapitation murder has surfaced in Assam days after the high-profile killing of Riya Talukdar Goswami in Guwahati, with police arresting four people in connection with the death of a 31-year-old man in Jorhat district.
The victim, Anil Rajgarh, a resident of Greenview Tea Estate in Mariani, had been missing since September 7. His body was later recovered from an area near the Bhogdoi river, several kilometres from the suspected crime scene. Police said the body had been buried and the head was allegedly found separately.
Those arrested are Kapil Karmakar, his wife Anima Karmakar, Kapil’s brother Sanjit Karmakar and their friend Mahesh Rajgarh.
According to police, frequent phone contact between Anil and Anima became a key lead. Investigators suspect a dispute involving their alleged relationship may have triggered the killing.
Police said the accused allegedly lured Anil to a tea garden area before attacking him. The weapon allegedly used was later recovered from Kapil’s residence.
The four have been booked under Sections 103(1), 61 and 238 of the BNS and remanded to three days’ police custody. The alleged motive remains under investigation.
