Leaders across India and abroad greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 76th birthday, with messages highlighting public service, governance and India’s global partnerships
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned 76 on Thursday, September 17, with birthday greetings pouring in from political leaders across India and abroad. Modi, born in Vadnagar, Gujarat, marked the occasion on a day that also coincides with Vishwakarma Jayanti.
President Droupadi Murmu extended her greetings, praising Modi’s 25 years in public life and saying he had established new benchmarks in good governance and given momentum to inclusive development. She wished him good health and a long life.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Modi as a symbol of hard work, sacrifice and foresight, and said his life of national service was an inspiration to millions. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also conveyed his birthday wishes, praising Modi’s commitment to service, good governance and nation-building.
Among opposition leaders, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi posted a brief message: “Happy birthday to PM Narendra Modi ji. Wishing you good health and a long life.” Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and other leaders also extended greetings to the Prime Minister.
From abroad, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Modi’s contribution to strengthening the India-Russia strategic partnership and said he enjoyed deep respect in India and authority globally.
The US Embassy in India, conveying US President Donald Trump’s wishes, posted: “On behalf of President Donald Trump, we wish Prime Minister @narendramodi a very Happy Birthday,” wishing him health and happiness in the coming year.
Modi’s birthday is also being marked through the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, featuring activities including blood donation drives, cleanliness campaigns and plantation programmes.
