Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked BRICS leaders for making the two-day Delhi summit productive and outcome-oriented, as the grouping adopted a wide-ranging New Delhi Declaration
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked the leaders of all BRICS member countries for making the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi “productive and outcome-oriented”.
Sharing a video highlighting key moments from the two-day summit, Modi said India had advanced “friendship, partnership and cooperation” through BRICS. The summit, held on September 12-13, brought together leaders of 11 member countries and 10 partner countries, along with representatives of international organisations.
Among those attending were Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Modi also held 15 bilateral meetings with heads of state and government on the sidelines of the summit.
The summit adopted the 45-page New Delhi Declaration, covering trade, terrorism, artificial intelligence, health, agriculture, education and institutional reform.
India proposed a Seafarers’ Emergency Support Network and a BRICS Continuity and Implementation Mechanism. New initiatives were also announced in agriculture, mental health, transport and digital cooperation.
BRICS also backed WTO reforms and condemned unilateral tariffs and sanctions, while strongly condemning the April 2025 Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
