Himanta Biswa Sarma pays tribute to the legendary artiste and urges people to contribute memorabilia for the proposed museum
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his birth centenary, highlighting new initiatives to preserve and carry forward the legendary artiste’s cultural legacy.
The Chief Minister paid homage to Hazarika at Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samanway Tirtha in Jalukbari and recalled his extraordinary contribution to Assam’s cultural landscape.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister virtually laid the foundation stone for a dedicated Dr Bhupen Hazarika Museum at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra. The museum will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore and will preserve and showcase the Bard’s life, works and enduring cultural contributions.
The Chief Minister appealed to people to donate memorabilia associated with Hazarika so that items connected to the legendary musician can be preserved and made accessible to future generations.
The initiatives come as Assam marks Hazarika’s birth centenary with a focus on preserving his heritage and connecting younger generations with the legacy of one of the state’s most influential cultural icons.
