Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said grievances over the electoral roll revision should be submitted through the established administrative process while also outlining plans to strengthen border infrastructure
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has urged citizens, community organisations and student bodies to follow the prescribed rules of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and raise grievances through the established administrative process.
Khandu said the last electoral revision in the state was conducted in 2006 and the current exercise was being undertaken after nearly two decades. He said the SIR rules clearly specify the documents required, birth-year criteria and other eligibility conditions.
“The rules are very clear,” Khandu said, adding that those meeting the requirements would be included in the electoral rolls, while those who did not qualify could not be included.
Referring to concerns raised in Changlang district, he appealed to communities and student organisations to avoid street protests over technical or procedural issues. He urged them to file written complaints if they suspected any deviation so authorities could investigate and take appropriate action.
Khandu also spoke about the Vice President’s upcoming two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh, including a cultural programme at Raj Bhavan and an address to the state Assembly on September 9.
On border infrastructure, Khandu said he had discussed concerns from the Taksing region with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. He said the Centre would provide infrastructure support for strategically important frontier areas.
