The 2020-batch IAS officer will take charge as Nagaon’s new District Commissioner after serving as Karbi Anglong DC for around eight months
Nagaon: The Assam government has appointed 2020-batch IAS officer Aranyak Saikia as the new District Commissioner of Nagaon, succeeding Devashish Sharma, who has taken voluntary retirement from government service.
Saikia, who was serving as District Commissioner of Karbi Anglong, will now head the Nagaon district administration. He assumed charge in Karbi Anglong on December 25, 2025, and has served in the post for around eight months.
Sharma’s voluntary retirement request was recently accepted by the Assam government, formally ending his tenure as Nagaon DC. He had reportedly applied for retirement under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme a few days earlier.
Saikia’s appointment comes at a politically significant time for Nagaon, with activity intensifying ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election.
The Nagaon Lok Sabha seat is vacant following Pradyut Bordoloi’s resignation as MP. The Election Commission is yet to announce the detailed schedule for the by-election.
