Assam Police Sets Up SIT to Investigate Bir Lachit Sena Leader Manasjyoti Chetia’s Death

The team will examine the circumstances surrounding Chetia’s death and allegations raised in the complaint

Sivasagar: Assam Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the death of Bir Lachit Sena leader Manasjyoti Chetia in Sivasagar.

The SIT, formed by Sivasagar Police, will be headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Lila Bora and will examine the circumstances leading to Chetia’s death.

Chetia died on August 25, two days after he was reportedly found critically injured on August 23. He had been undergoing treatment following the incident. Police have already detained five people named in a complaint filed by the Bir Lachit Sena in connection with the case.

The investigation team includes Amguri Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mridul Hazarika, Nazira Police Station Second Officer SI (UB) Siraj Saikia and Nazira Police Station WSI (UB) Sumi Barman. Siraj Saikia has been designated as the investigating officer.

The SIT will examine available evidence, establish the sequence of events and investigate the allegations raised in the complaint. The probe is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding Chetia’s death and whether criminal liability arises from the incident.
