Two more deaths were reported in Golaghat and Karbi Anglong, while 125 relief camps and distribution centres continue to provide assistance
Guwahati: Assam’s flood-related death toll has reached 100 after two more people drowned in floodwater in Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on August 9.
The flood situation remains serious across seven districts, with more than 1.37 lakh people affected in Charaideo, Darrang, Golaghat, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Sivasagar.
Golaghat remains the worst-affected district, with nearly 70,000 people impacted, followed by Sivasagar with around 40,000 and Jorhat with more than 16,000 affected residents. The situation showed marginal improvement from Saturday, when nearly 1.5 lakh people across eight districts were affected.
According to ASDMA, 125 relief camps and relief distribution centres are currently operating across six districts, providing shelter and assistance to 49,061 flood-affected people.
During the past 24 hours, authorities distributed 710.44 quintals of rice, 127.85 quintals of dal, 38.34 quintals of salt and 3,773.7 litres of mustard oil among affected communities.
Floodwaters have inundated 456 villages and submerged 11,933.46 hectares of cropland. Damage to embankments, roads, bridges and other public infrastructure has also been reported.
The Dhansiri River at Golaghat and Numaligarh and the Kushiyara River at Sribhumi continue to flow above their respective danger levels. The floods have also affected 43,331 livestock and poultry across the state, further adding to the losses faced by affected communities.
