Floodwaters continue to affect 13 districts, 33 revenue circles and 464 villages, with Golaghat remaining the worst-hit district
Guwahati: Assam’s flood situation showed signs of gradual improvement on Friday, even as the state’s flood-related death toll rose to 98, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The latest flood-related death was reported from the Mahmora revenue circle in Charaideo district. Despite the fatality, the number of affected districts declined from 15 to 13, while the affected population fell from more than 1.68 lakh to 1,55,849.
The affected districts are Sivasagar, Golaghat, Nagaon, Hojai, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Darrang, Biswanath, Kamrup (Metropolitan), Lakhimpur, Udalguri, Jorhat and Charaideo. Floodwaters continue to affect 33 revenue circles and 464 villages.
Golaghat remains the worst affected, with 58,750 people impacted, followed by Sivasagar with 48,286 and Jorhat with 25,259.
Authorities have set up 55 relief camps, where more than 10,000 displaced people are currently taking shelter. Another 18 relief distribution centres are providing assistance to affected residents.
The Dhansiri River continues to flow above the danger level at Golaghat town and Numaligarh, while the Kushiyara River is also above the danger mark at Sribhumi.
The floods have submerged 10,748.64 hectares of cropland and affected more than 47,000 animals. Damage to roads, bridges, houses and other infrastructure has also been reported from several districts as relief and restoration operations continue.
