Gaurav Gogoi urged faster flood relief in Assam as AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal announced up to Rs 1 crore in assistance for affected families

Jorhat: Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday urged the state government to strengthen rescue and relief operations after visiting flood-affected areas in his Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency.

Interacting with displaced families and distributing relief materials, Gogoi described the situation as “deeply concerning” and stressed the need for immediate government intervention.

“Timely relief, safe shelter, healthcare, and rehabilitation for every affected family should remain the government’s highest priority,” Gogoi said. He also called for adequate compensation for bereaved families and faster restoration of normalcy in flood-hit areas.

Meanwhile, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal announced a flood relief package of up to Rs 1 crore, including an immediate allocation of Rs 50 lakh through the Ajmal Foundation. He is scheduled to visit the worst-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat to oversee relief efforts.

The latest Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin said the floods have claimed 31 lives and affected more than 5.64 lakh people across 16 districts. Sivasagar remains the worst-hit district, while rescue and relief operations continue amid forecasts of more heavy rainfall.
