Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says the Assam government is exploring a Bollywood-scale film on Lachit Borphukan to take the legendary Ahom general’s story to national and global audiences
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government is in dfiscussion with filmmaker Aditya Dhar to direct a big budget buiopic ojn lengendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan.
Speaking during a Facebook Live session, the Chief Minister said the proposed film aims to bring the story of the 17th century military commander, who led the Ahom forces to victory against against the Mughals in the Battle of Saraighat, to audiences across India and the world.
The chief minister said he is scheduled to meet Dhar, director of the National Award-winning Uri: The Surgical Strike and the upcoming Dhurandhar, in August to discuss the project in detail.
“If Aditya Dhar is unable to direct the film, we will approach other directors. The objective is to ensure that a grand biopic on Lachit Borphukan is made,” Sarma said.
If finalised, it would be the first Bollywood-scale feature film backed by the Assam government based on the life of Lachit Borphukan, who is widely revered as a symbol of courage, patriotism and military leadership.
