Women and Child Development Minister Ajanta Neog reviews progress of the Old Age Home and Child Care Centre, expected to be completed within three months
Guwahati: Assam Women and Child Development Minister and Kamrup district Guardian Minister Ajanta Neog on Sunday reviewed the progress of the under-construction Old Age Home and Child Care Centre at Bongaon Camp in Boko, an ambitious social welfare project expected to become Asia’s second-largest integrated facility of its kind.
Being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 82.58 crore, the integrated welfare complex is nearing completion and is expected to be ready within the next three months.
During the inspection, Neog assessed the pace of construction and reviewed the infrastructure being created to provide residential care and support for senior citizens and children in need. Senior officials from the Women and Child Development Department accompanied the minister during the visit.
Addressing reporters, Neog said the Child Care Centre has been designed with separate accommodation for different age groups to ensure children receive age-appropriate care, protection and support. She added that the Old Age Home will be equipped with healthcare services and medical facilities to provide quality care and improve the well-being of elderly residents.
The integrated campus aims to strengthen Assam’s social welfare infrastructure by bringing essential residential care, healthcare and support services for vulnerable children and senior citizens under one roof. Once completed, the facility is expected to significantly enhance the state’s institutional care network while emerging as one of the largest integrated welfare centres in Asia.
