Leaders review Special Strategic and Global Partnership, focusing on economic security, trade, semiconductors, defence, clean energy and a Free and Open Indo-Pacific
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi during the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, reviewing the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and discussing ways to expand cooperation across strategic and economic sectors.
The leaders held wide-ranging discussions on economic security, trade, investment, innovation, defence cooperation, resilient supply chains, semiconductors, clean energy, digital transformation and a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).
Earlier in the day, Takaichi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan during her first official visit to India since assuming office. She arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day visit.
Welcoming the Japanese leader, Modi posted on X: “A very warm welcome to India, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. We are delighted to host you on your first visit to India and I look forward to our wide-ranging discussions that will further deepen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Through our joint efforts, we will continue to advance peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.”
The visit also features the Japan-India Joint Economic Forum, bringing together more than 150 Japanese companies to explore investment opportunities in manufacturing, technology and infrastructure.
The summit is expected to result in new initiatives to further strengthen one of India’s most important strategic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific.
