The Indian Air Force and Arunachal Pradesh government launched aerial rescue operations in flood-hit Keyi Panyor district, airlifting SDRF teams and relief materials

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government, in coordination with the Indian Air Force (IAF), launched extensive rescue and relief operations on June 25 following devastating flash floods in the Poosa region of Keyi Panyor district.
According to the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), the Department of Civil Aviation was placed on high alert immediately after reports of severe flooding emerged from the affected area. The floods disrupted connectivity and left several locations vulnerable due to damaged infrastructure and rising water levels.
Acting on a request from the Deputy Commissioner of Keyi Panyor, the Civil Aviation Department sought aerial assistance from the Eastern Air Command in Shillong. In response, the IAF swiftly organised an airlift mission to transport State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, rescue equipment and essential relief materials from the Itanagar Capital Region to flood-hit Pitapool.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the operation was successfully executed, ensuring the timely deployment of rescue teams to the affected areas.
The mission was coordinated under the supervision of senior defence officials, including Colonel R. Malhotra from the Ministry of Defence and Group Captain Mukesh Chauhan of the Eastern Air Command. The aircrew first reached Hollongi before proceeding to the disaster-hit region.
Officials said the deployment of SDRF teams is expected to strengthen ongoing search, rescue and relief operations across Keyi Panyor district. Authorities have indicated that additional air sorties may be conducted depending on requirements on the ground.
Rescue operations are continuing as the state government and defence agencies work to provide relief, restore connectivity and assist residents affected by the flash floods.
