Guwahati: : More than 18.60 lakh farmer families in Assam are set to receive financial assistance under the 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, with Rs 372.01 crore being transferred directly to beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the update after virtually joining Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the launch of several national development initiatives.
“Under the latest PM-KISAN installment, 18.60 lakh farmers in Assam will benefit from the transfer of Rs 372 crore,” the Chief Minister said, highlighting the government’s continued focus on strengthening rural livelihoods.
Launched in 2019, PM-KISAN provides eligible farmer families with Rs 6,000 annually, disbursed in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each. The scheme aims to supplement farmers’ income and help them manage agricultural as well as household expenses.
Officials said the direct transfer mechanism ensures transparency, reduces delays and eliminates intermediaries, allowing benefits to reach recipients efficiently.
The latest installment is expected to provide timely financial support ahead of the upcoming cultivation season, helping farmers meet input costs and other essential expenditures. The PM-KISAN programme remains one of the Centre’s largest farmer welfare initiatives, supporting millions of agricultural households across the country.
