“Students Face Crisis, PM Discusses Jaljeera”: Khera Targets Modi’s Mann Ki Baat

Congress leader accuses Centre of ignoring concerns over NEET, CBSE and CUET controversies; raises five questions over CBSE’s On-Screen Marking system and tender process

New Delhi: The Congress intensified its attack on the Centre over recent examination-related controversies, with senior leader Pawan Khera accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent on issues affecting students across the country.

Addressing a press conference, Khera said he expected the Prime Minister to address concerns surrounding NEET, CBSE and CUET during the latest edition of Mann Ki Baat. Instead, he alleged that pressing issues impacting students were ignored.

“I hoped the Prime Minister would speak about the crises facing lakhs of young people. However, there was no discussion on the exam controversies,” Khera said.

The Congress leader also questioned the government’s handling of the CBSE On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, raising five specific questions related to alleged procedural lapses, tender conditions and the selection of contractor COEMPT.

According to Khera, experts and teachers had flagged multiple concerns about the system, yet those warnings were allegedly overlooked. He further claimed that changes in tender norms benefited a particular company and demanded transparency from the Education Ministry.

Khera also criticised what he described as declining investment in education, alleging that the sector’s share in the Union Budget had fallen from 4.77 per cent during the UPA era to 2.50 per cent currently.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also targeted the government over the CBSE OSM controversy, questioning the response to reported cybersecurity vulnerabilities and demanding accountability from those involved.
