Rs 1.18 Crore Cash Recovered in Fresh Raid Linked to Arrested ACS Officer Lachit Kumar Das

Vigilance teams seized cash, land papers and financial records during searches after the officer’s arrest in an alleged Rs 1 lakh bribery case linked to land sale clearance

Guwahati: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption carried out another raid at a property linked to arrested ACS officer Lachit Kumar Das and recovered Rs 1.18 crore in cash along with several land-related documents.

Officials said the search operation was conducted at a residence in Queen’s Garden, Ranibagan area of Beltola in Guwahati, a day after Das was arrested in an alleged bribery case connected to land sale permission.

According to the vigilance department, Das, who served as Additional Director of Land Records, was earlier caught in a trap operation while allegedly accepting Rs 45,000 as part of a demanded bribe of Rs 1 lakh for issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) linked to a land transaction.

Acting on a complaint, vigilance officials conducted the operation inside the Directorate of Land Records office in Rupnagar, where the officer was allegedly caught immediately after receiving the money.

Following the arrest, anti-corruption teams launched multiple searches at locations linked to Das. During an overnight raid at his Beltola residence, officials recovered Rs 48.38 lakh in cash from a locker, fixed deposit certificates worth around Rs 80 lakh, insurance documents, bank records and papers related to landed properties owned by Das and his family members.

Investigators are also examining documents linked to multiple land holdings, luxury vehicles and other assets allegedly associated with the officer. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
