Amit Shah Announces Smart Border Project to Strengthen India’s Border Security

Amit Shah announced a Smart Border Project using drones, radars and modern surveillance technology to strengthen border security and curb infiltration along Bangladesh and Pakistan borders

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Centre will launch a Smart Border Project aimed at making India’s borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan “impenetrable” through advanced technology and integrated surveillance systems.

Addressing the Border Security Force Investiture Ceremony and Rustamji Memorial Lecture in New Delhi, Shah said the government is working to build a high-tech border security grid within the next year. The proposed project will deploy drones, radars, smart cameras and other modern technologies to strengthen monitoring and response capabilities along international borders.

“Once this initiative begins, the work of the BSF will become significantly easier and stronger,” Shah said, while stressing the need to counter emerging threats such as cyber attacks, hybrid warfare and drone-based infiltration.

The Home Minister also reiterated the government’s stand against illegal infiltration, saying the Centre is committed not only to stopping infiltration but also to identifying and deporting infiltrators. He added that governments in Assam, Tripura and West Bengal are adopting stricter measures to prevent demographic changes caused by illegal migration.

Highlighting the expansion of the Border Security Force, Shah said the BSF, which started with 25 battalions in 1965, has now grown into the world’s largest border guarding force with nearly 2.7 lakh personnel. He further noted that the BSF’s jurisdiction has been extended from 15 km to 50 km in border areas.
