Meghalaya Unveils Rs 2,000 Cr Transformation Plan for Tura

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma reviewed a large-scale redevelopment roadmap focused on urban renewal, tourism, sports infrastructure and commercial expansion in Tura

Shillong: Meghalaya has drawn up an ambitious Rs 1,928-crore redevelopment blueprint for Tura, with the state government pushing ahead on a wide range of infrastructure and urban transformation projects aimed at reshaping the Garo Hills town into a modern regional hub.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on April 12, chaired a high-level review meeting to assess the progress of ongoing and proposed projects across sectors including tourism, sports, hospitality and civic infrastructure. Cabinet Ministers Timothy D. Shira and Sanbor Shullai were also present during the meeting.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that projects worth over Rs 1,331 crore are currently under implementation. Among the key projects reviewed was the Rs 165-crore Tura Integrated Administrative Complex, which is expected to be completed in phases beginning September 2027.

The government is also advancing several major sports infrastructure projects, including the PA Sangma Sports Complex and West Stand, the Pa Togan Sangma Track and Field Stadium and the Tura Technology Park.

The review further covered works related to Tura Bazaar beautification, a proposed convention centre, Pelga Tourist Circuits and Hospitality Complex, a working women’s hostel, heliport development and the Tura Water Supply Scheme. Officials also said redevelopment work at the Polo Orchid Hotel would begin shortly.

Meanwhile, projects worth Rs 242.74 crore are ready for tendering, while another Rs 155 crore worth of proposals remain at the conceptual stage. Sangma stressed timely execution and called for stronger inter-departmental coordination to ensure smooth implementation.
